The late eighties were American years for Doris. She had travelled the US western states in 1986, visited Chile in early 1987 and was back in North America for winter 1987. Looking ahead she did another US trip in 1988.
This post gives the itinerary, kindly laid out by the tour company.
If you have read any of my earlier posts you will know that Alfred Gregory, or Greg as he liked to be called, was a photographer and explorer. He was one of the people who was in the team below the conquest of Everest and his shots are world famous.
His wife Suzanne is also a reknown photographer.
Together they would organise tours for a dozen or two people with the express aim of going to places, and loitering there, to provide good subjects for photographs.
Doris did leave a journal which is in the form of notes. It is hard to read some bits but one part that caught my eye was that in Mexico, she ate something that seriously did not agree with her and the rest of the tour left her in Mexico City when they went to Guatemala. Except they didn’t get past the airport and had to return to the hotel. One their second attempt Doris was fit enough again to go with them.
If you are a time traveller, you might want to adjust the days on the itinerary accordingly (and there’s a couple of bets that you can make for me please).
