Philippines Tour 1980 – Post 17/17

This post contains the ‘odd’ shots from the Philippines tour. The mounts differ to the main sets and even between themselves. I suspect they are duplicates acquired from Vera or Gladys. Or possibly the sole survivor of a disastrous roll.

This is a Phil. Kim Luan Temple. I assumed it is one of the Taoist temples in Manila. I do like to wander within Google Maps to find exactly where these places are. Especially to see what is just out of shot etc. However either the temple has had its gateway thoroughly redesigned and the building next door removed or this is not the Manila one.

Doris often took informal shots, often of women and/or children. In 1980 she would have been 62 so probably the subjects were comfortable with her. In her diaries I did read that she mostly asked before the shot, through raising the camera and probably her eyebrows both.

I find it interesting how people from different cultures react to the camera. From refusal, through anger; agreement and joy and the occasional ‘what is that thing?’

I doubt she woke him to get permission. That cannot be comfortable.
