Hello – Welcome to WDEOD, a site full of Doris’ photographs!
Its purpose is to share the shots she took in her 50+ years of travel. I’m trying to do a post a film – so one tour may have many posts.
To see what I’ve put up so far, use the menu (three lines up there ↑ if you are on a phone or tablet) to go to a place or a year.
These are more photographs taken by Doris or her travelling companions on various tours around the world.
This set is from her 1971 visit to Hattusa which was the capital of the Hittite empire in the late Bronze age. For this region the Bronze Age was ~2000BC. In Britain we were still probably making our cars with stone wheels.
Hattusa has since become an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is near the town of Boğazkale in central Turkey. The Sphinx Gates have been on their own little tours – one to Germany until returned to Turkey in 2011 and the other to Istanbul.
After Hattsuta, the tour must have visited a modern farm.
Ingenious ways to weigh down the plough – grown man
… tourist …
… child on chair (who had the best idea!).
Finally this is Doris doing what my wife would love to be doing rather than staring out into the grey English weather.
Clambering over ancient ruins in the sunshine and warmth.
