Hello – Welcome to WDEOD, a site full of Doris’ photographs!
Its purpose is to share the shots she took in her 50+ years of travel. I’m trying to do a post a film – so one tour may have many posts.
To see what I’ve put up so far, use the menu (three lines up there ↑ if you are on a phone or tablet) to go to a place or a year.
Doris and Muriel visited Mexico in March 1965. They stopped over in Washington DC before getting there and New Orleans and Bermuda after.
Most of the slides are Kodachrome Transparencies which have kept their colour well, and have dates, photo number and annotations making sorting easier. Hopefully I have them in a correct order, but apologies if I momentarily jump between rolls.
I still have not figured an easy way to provide a path to the other films in the set, maybe I decided on the wrong ‘theme’. As a stop-gap, I have set up a links page – here.
This set is USA – Washington DC and Mexico – Mexico City.
I gather this was a temporary structure. The shot was taken between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington, which are only separated by the Potomac and a few islands. It looks like a theatre (should I say theater here?) or floating stage.
This is John Kennedy’s grave in spring 1965.
Ford’s Theater. This says ‘Lincoln’s House’ on the slide
And this say’s Ford’s Theatre – but it is Petersen’s House, opposite the theatre where Lincoln was taken and died.
Nowaday’s the adjoining buildings are a little less brazen.
(on a much nicer day weatherwise!)
